Sony appears to be scheduling an event for November 12 in Shanghai, according to Chinese social media sources, which could see the global launch of the Xperia Z1S, also rumoured as the Xperia Z1 Mini. The Xperia Z1S has already been launched in Japan as the Xperia Z1f.
Some of the promotional material for the event shows the slogan “Be moved”, which some are suggesting could be a hint that this is a mobile device. The Xperia Z1f launched in Japan has a smaller bodyshell and a 4.3-inch 720p display, but with much the same spec as the Xperia Z1 flagship down to the Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and 20-megapixel camera.
There are plenty of arguments as to why Sony would do well to introduce such a handset to the wider global market, not least of all the fact that most other “Mini” devices from rival manufacturers have not echoed their larger counterparts so exactly in the hardware department. Sony has something of a unique product on its hands, in this instance.
Another possible candidate for the event is the rumoured Sony Xperia Tianchi, a 6-inch phablet with a 720p display and an octa-core MediaTek processor, which could be an affordable equivalent to the Xperai Z Ultra. Of course, as the current trend is very much towards multi-device launches, both rumoured handsets could appear at the same event (but the Z1S is the most likely candidate).
