The Sound BlasterX Katana is a lovely audio solution that we have reviewed previously here at eTeknix a few months ago. Now it is getting an update from Creative Technologies which enables full support for Sony’s PlayStation 4 series. This entails USB audio support for Sony PS4, PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim. Users can enjoy cinematic audio performance in Uncharted, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and even upcoming titles such as Call of Duty WWII and NBA 2K18. High-quality USB audio connectivity is a convenient add-on for Sony PlayStation 4 Slim console users. This allows these gamers to enjoy digital audio through the Sound BlasterX Katana without having to purchase a separate optical-out adapter.
Users will now also enjoy an enhanced in-game communication experience through a full suite of noise-reduction and voice morphing technologies. This is made possible by the Katana’s built-in advanced Sound Blaster processor. Katana users previously could only connect to their PS4 via optical connection. A separate mic connection to the PS4’s controller was also necessary. Connecting it that way did not offer the benefits of noise reduction and voice morphing enhancements.
Also, users can look forward to accessing these technologies on-the-fly when the Sound Blaster Connected App comes out. While Katana has a connection to a PS4, users on iOS or Android smartphone or tablet will be able to control these features remotely. Although this update is not yet available at this time, it will be available before the end of October 2017. Download it directly from the Apple App Store or Google Play store.
