Source Claims Nvidia 3090 ‘Super’ to Launch This Year!

Even since the launch of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 30XX graphics cards late last year, it’s been a constant source of speculation and debate as to whether Team Green would revive their ‘Super’ branding within this series. A factor that seemed increasingly unlikely when ‘Ti’ variants across many of the GPUs in the range were subsequently launched. – Following a Twitter post by reliable leak source ‘Greymon55‘, however, not only have purported specifications for the 3090 ‘Super’ leaked online, but they’re also suggesting that it will be released (or at least launched) before the end of this year!

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090… Super?

While a lot of the specifications are, as you might expect, rather dry, the leak does suggest 5 fairly key points surrounding this potential new graphics card:

  • Nvidia may be restricting the ‘Super’ treatment to the 3090. A decision that makes sense as there isn’t currently any ‘3090 Ti’ and the rest of the series doesn’t really leave much in terms of ‘wiggle’ room for a new variant
  • The ‘3090 Super’ will be released, or at least launched, before the end of this year
  • It will feature 21 Gbps GDDR6X memory. Faster than the original 3090 which had 19.5 Gbps
  • The graphics card will require a (relatively speaking) huge amount of power (something in the region of 400 watts to 450 watts)
  • Unlike the ‘standard’ Nvidia 3090, the 3090 ‘Super’ will not feature NVLink (the ability to link 2 of the GPUs together)

What Do We Think?

Based on the details, it would appear that if we are getting a Nvidia ‘3090 Super’ (which we should note is nothing more than an intriguing rumour at this point), that it will essentially boil down to a combination of the full potential of the original GPU being unlocked with a little bit more extensive overclocking (particular of the memory) thrown in for good measure. – Similar to the original 3090, however, while this ‘Super’ variant will undoubtedly represent something of a beast, it’s exceptionally unlikely that this is going to be heavily targeted towards gamers. Not, incidentally, because it won’t be good at the job (because we suspect this could potentially be a new market leader), but largely based upon the fact that the current 3090 is bloody expensive. So, with that in mind, just how much more will this ‘Super’ cost? I mean, I could be wrong, but if this rumour is proven to be true (which seems more likely than not), something tells me we’re erring closer to a $1,799 MSRP with this one.
