Spamhaus Hacking Suspect Used A Mobile Attack Van

Last week saw the arrest of an individual that police have only identified as “SK”, a 35 year old Dutchman who was accused of committing one of the biggest ever internet attacks and he did this all from a custom “mobile computing office”.

The police said that the crimes he is being charged with are for “unprecedentedly serious attacks” against non-profit anti-spam watchdog Spamhaus. It took the combined efforts of Dutch, Spanish, German, British and US police forces to lead the investigation to the point of arrest.

What is so interesting about this case, other than the fact that it was on a grand scale and involved so many authorities to bring him down, was that he operated his attacks from the back of a van, where he used various antennas and scanning equipment to hack networks and computers. SK stated to police upon his arrest that he belonged to the “Telecommunications and Foreign Affairs Ministry of the Republic of Cyberbunker”, which is a highly secure web host service.

SK is said to have used DDoS attacks against Spamhaus in the region of 300Gbps and given that a typical level DDoS attack levels off at around 50Gbps, you can understand that SK had some seriously powerful tools at his disposal and why the authorities acting on such an international scale to bring him to justice.
