Specs For Upcoming PS5 Pro Have Been Leaked

It’s no secret that Sony is planning on releasing a Pro model of the PlayStation 5, however the exact details of such a console are still being kept a secret, fortunately, leakers always prevail and some information has come forward about this console and its performance improvements.

PS5 Pro Leaked Information

Via Insider-gaming.com, information has been leaked surrounding this consoles Pro edition mid-generation upgrade and we can expect to see some fairly pleasant upgrades.

Starting with the CPU which is identical to the standard PS5 yet it has been given some headroom in the form of a “High CPU Frequency Mode”. This high frequency lifts the performance up to 3.85 GHz, a 10% increase over the standard edition PS5.

Performance

  • Standard PlayStation 5 – 448 GB/s (14 GT/s)
  • PlayStation 5 Pro – 576 GB/s (18GT/s) – A 28% increase over the standard console.

Memory has also seen a substantial uplift with a 28% increase in bandwidth compared to the previous console going from 448GB/s (14GT/s) to 576 GB/s (18GT/s). Insider gaming notes that the PS5 Pro’s memory efficiency is higher than the standard console so the bandwidth gain could be higher than 28%.

GPU

The GPU in the PS5 Pro also sees a large uplift with up to 45% faster rendering, 2-3x faster ray tracing and maybe even up to 4x in some cases, and an overall performance of 33.5 Tflops. Furthermore, it seems Sony is experimenting with their own Upscaling solution by the name of PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling which could be very beneficial for the console.

Some very potent specs here for this console, so when will we see it on the shelves? Well, the current release window is pointed towards Autumn 2024 (Fall 2024) and is said to be “as competitive as possible” and will come with 1TB of storage and a detachable disk drive.

What Do You Think?

It seems inevitable at this point, but I’m sure there’s still plenty more we can learn about the upcoming console. But what do you think will be featured on the PS5 Pro? Let us know in the comments section below!

  1. Hopefully RDNA 4 TFLOPS are better than RDNA 3 TFLOPS which were really a way to have double the performance versus RDNA 2 on a powerpoint slide, and 10% more in reality.

Otherwise, in reality, this will perform like a ~18 TFLOPS GPU compared to the 10 TFLOPS of the PS5. Which is still fine, for a mid-gen bump that might not be that much more expensive. The RT upgrades are good, and the upscaling tech may be invaluable.
