Price
A quick Google brings up a few retailers with stock of the Speedlink Prime Z-DW, with a fair bit of variety in prices, but a little shopping around with get you one delivered for roughly £29. This is a competitive price, but it also means the mouse is priced close to the Roccat Kova and the CM Storm Recon, two other very good budget friendly mice.
Overview
I’m actually rather surprised by the Speedlink Prime Z-DW, for a budget mouse it certainly packs a lot of features. The software that is included is easy to use and it offers extensive customisation options. It’s really easy to setup macros, shortcuts and more for the mouse over multiple profiles. If you play a lot of different games such as FPS, MMO and RPG, you can easily configure the mouse to best suit each task. The on-board memory is handy too, as it means you can take your favourite shortcuts and settings with you, without the need for the desktop software.
The dual scroll wheel is a pointless gimmick in my opinion, it’s really not required and this mouse would be just as good without it. However, it does work rather well (despite its pointlessness) and I’m sure there are some cool uses for it. With the dual wheels and programmable buttons, you’ve got plenty of choice for mapping your game and software controls.
Build quality isn’t the greatest in the world, but it’s certainly far from poor. The mouse is lightweight and rather nimble overall. The switches feel a little stiff at first, but they should break in nicely after a few hours usage. There is a high quality braiding on the USB cable and the grip coating on the mouse body; you can’t really ask for much more in this price range.
Pros
- Unique design
- Dual-scroll wheels
- Fully programmable
- On-board memory
- Good sensor performance (for this price range)
Cons
- Dual scroll wheels do look strange
“The Speedlink Prime Z-DW is a good budget-friendly mouse with plenty of features that will appeal to a wide range of users. If you’re in need of the kind of features you often find on high-end gaming mice, at a fraction of the cost, then this is certainly a product you’ll want to consider.”
