Final Thoughts
Price
The Speedlink Quinox Pro USB PC Gaming Controller can be picked up from a few retailers here in the UK, with prices ranging from £50-60. This isn’t cheap, and is pretty much stomping on the ground of the Xbox One controller, but you do get a huge amount of features that really go a long way to justifying the price.
Overview
For most users, the Xbox One controller is more than enough, it costs about the same and it’s almost universally supported right out of the box. However, Speedlink has done a great job on the Quinox, giving it a freaking huge amount of features that help differentiate it from the rest of the market, at least at this price range. You can get such feature-packed controllers from Microsoft and Scuf, but they’ll cost you at least twice the price of the Quinox, making it exceptional value for money.
For sim gaming, not everyone has the room for a flight stick or a steering wheel, but you may still have a demand for a lot more buttons. The Quinox certainly covers that by adding four paddles and two additional rear buttons, which is great for flying, racing, space, or any other sim on the market. Being able to tweak button configurations and stick/trigger sensitivity on the fly is a nice feature too, one I won’t use often, but it’s there and it works.
The controller feels good in your hand, the button layout doesn’t feel as cluttered as you might expect, and we didn’t have any compatibility issues with it overall. While gaming, the sticks and triggers are responsive, and there’s a powerful force feedback motor that gives you all the usual rumbles while gaming.
Added touches like the extra buttons are nice, but it’s the little OLED display and the two dials that add the most features. It’s easy to use your thumbs to quickly change profiles, assign buttons, change sensitivity and more. Add to that the detachable cable, X/D input switch, and the LED lighting, and you’re well on your way to seeing the Quinox as one of the best value for money and versatile controllers on the market today.
Pros
- Huge range of buttons
- On-the-fly button adjustments
- Adjustable dead zones and sensitivity
- Built-in OLED display
- Detachable cable
- LED lighting
- Competitive price
Cons
- None
Neutral
- Price is closer to Xbox One controller but does offer a lot more features
“The Quinox may not have the pedigree of some other feature packed controllers, but at half the price of the competition, it offers a lot in return for your investment, and makes an ideal controller for those who want comprehensive controls for sim gaming, but are otherwise limited on space for larger sim peripherals.”
