Spyro The Dragon Level Created in Unreal 4 Engine Released!

Spyro The Dragon Artisans Revisited

Spyro The Dragon was a classic platformer. Originally released on the PS1 it quickly garnered itself a massive fanbase. So big in fact that Spyro himself also became the unintended but ‘happy to oblige’ mascot of the PlayStation.

Since then, the poor Dragon has found himself somewhat cast aside. This despite many fan-led efforts to get Sony to bring him back.

A fan of the gaming series, however, has taken things to a whole new level. Using the Unreal 4 engine, they have recreated a level from the original Spyro the Dragon.

The creator, known only as Valefor, teased the map back in October, however, did not release it to the public. He has, however, finally released the whole level in full for people to download and try for themselves.

One level of perfection!

It is sadly just one level, but you should note that this was a fan-led project. In a report via DSOGaming the level was created to attempt to show Sony what a more modernized version could look like. With his private version seemingly not sparking enough attention, they decided to release it to the public.

In fairness, not a bad idea, but it does come with risks. In the larger public hands, this will surely, sooner or later, come to Sony’s attention who have, at present, not seemingly issued any DMCA or Cease and Desist claim against the creator.

It, therefore, may be the spark needed, but you might want to nab your copy quickly.

Available to download from the following link and of course, as always, we recommend that care is taken with downloads. Now that this has gained popularity it could easily be highjacked by less than scrupulous people.

The controls are reported as follows:

  • Move – W,S,A,D
  • Camera control – Mouse
  • Fire breathing – E
  • Charge – Shift
  • Jump – Space
  • Jump to glide – Space x 2
  • Stop gliding – Space while gliding
  • Pause menu – Escape
