Square Enix Reimagines Iron Man as a Dark Ninja

A partnership between Square Enix, developer of the Final Fantasy games and Marvel Comics has produced a reimagined, ninja-inspired Iron Man figurine. Though the action figure is black-accented and has a hexagonal arc reactor in its chest, it is still recognisable as Iron Man and is part of the Square Enix Variant Play Arts Kai series.
“The armor’s detailed articulation highlights several special effect pieces such as the palm repulsor rays, boot jet emissions, micro-missiles projecting from the thighs, back flaps and expandable air brakes on the legs,” said Marvel’s Alex Lopez wrote on the Marvel website. “These additions give all you Iron Man fans the ability to structure the collectible in various actions poses such as the high flying stance or the iconic fist-to-the-ground landing position. The battle-worn paint gives off a realistic feel to assure collectors that this Iron Man can go a few rounds with the best of them.”
The figure is 27cm tall, priced at $120, and due for release in July this year.
This isn’t the first time that Square Enix has redesigned comic book classics. Last year, Final Fantasy designer Tetsuya Nomura produced striking new versions of both Batman and Catwoman for the Variant Play Arts Kai range.
