Star Citizen’s Planet Generating Engine Looks Amazing

There has certainly been quite a bit of controversy surrounding Star Citizen lately, probably because the game has been so overhyped. Still, even though some people are already starting to lose faith in the upcoming space-sim, I say that we should, at least, wait for the game’s official release before jumping to any conclusions. What we do know so far is that Star Citizen looks incredible, as Cloud Imperium Games’ developers have done an incredible job at creating a procedurally-generated universe based on CryEngine. Speaking of procedural generation, the game’s official YouTube channel has recently received a brand new video called “From Pupil to Planet,” in which the developers are showing off a seamless transition from the character’s face to outer space.
The planet in question measures 1,000 km in diameter, which is fairly small compared to normal planet sizes. However, given the fact that the devs managed to put this together at all is proof enough that Star Citizen shows promise. Moreover, the planet’s atmosphere is based on a “physically accurate model of light transport” that takes scattering into account, while 64 bit positioning and Camera Relative Rendering techniques prevent precision loss at a planetary scale. Have a look at the video below and let us know what you think about it.
