Star Wars Battlefront 3 Remake to Become Available on Steam

It’s true that fan-made projects related to major franchises such as Star Wars are usually short-lived, as their creators quickly receive C&D letters even before the projects are actually complete. That’s a shame, really, because some of these fan-made games have true potential, and cancelling them means throwing away a lot of hard work and precious time. The Star Wars Battlefront 3 fan remake by Frontwire Studios has been on our radar for quite some time now, and despite the C&D trend, it looks like its creators are actually looking to take things to the next level by working out a deal with Valve.
Apparently, Star Wars: Galaxy in Turmoil, will soon be released on Steam for free – a move that might actually force Disney’s hand. Still, according to Tony Fergie Romanelli, the President of Frontwire Studios, the project is relatively safe, especially now that Valve has decided to back it.
“It is with great pleasure that as of today I am able to officially announce that Frontwire Studios has officially signed a distribution deal with Steam/Valve for the game Galaxy in Turmoil. After ongoing discussion between Valve Representatives and myself, Valve/Steam has agreed to ship Galaxy in Turmoil to it’s millions of users for FREE. On a final note; People have been expressed their concern as of late, saying they expect us to get a Cease & Desist from Disney. I’ll be honest – I’ve had mild concerns myself from time to time. However, Valve clearly lacks that same concern. By agreeing to publish Galaxy in Turmoil, Valve is assisting us in growing and ensuring the longevity of the Galaxy in Turmoil project and community as a whole.”
If Galaxy in Turmoil manages to retain its spot on Steam, it would set an example for other independent studios out there, and it would likely encourage them to start off their own remakes. Do you think that Frontwire Studios has nothing to worry about?
