The third instalment in the Star Wars Battlefront series will be playable first by Xbox One users, a Microsoft executive has revealed on Twitter. The news is unsurprising, since EA tends to release game five days early on Xbox One for members of the EA Access Program, but this marks the first confirmation that Xbox gamers are set to enjoy the game before anyone else.
Xbox Product Manager Aaron Greenberg said on Twitter, in response to an Xbox fan:
EA Access, which is only available on Xbox One, costs £3.99 per month and offers members access to a plethora of existing EA games for free, plus discounts on games and early access to new releases.
The latest Star Wars Battlefront game, unlike the previous entries in the series, is being developed by DICE, the studio responsible for the Battlefield franchise and Mirror’s Edge, which became a subsidiary of EA back in 2004. The first two critically-acclaimed Star Wars Battlefront were produced by Rebellion, but the studio lost the series when in 2013 EA obtained exclusive rights to develop Star Wars games.
The new Star Wars Battlefront will also be available for PlayStation 4 and PC and is due for release around Christmas 2015. The game will debut at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California which runs from 16th to 19th April.
