Star Wars Episode VIII Gets Title

Now we emerging from the wake of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story – the prequel to the very first Star Wars movie from 1977, which follows an intrepid team of misfits as they try to steal to plans to the Empire’s most deadly weapon, the Death Star – Disney and Lucasfilm has decided it’s time to reveal the title for the next proper entry in the Star Wars saga – the follow-up to 2015’s Episode VII: The Force Awakens – which is helmed by Looper director Rian Johnson.
Star Wars Episode VIII is called:
The Last Jedi, framed by an ominously red Star Wars logo. The tone of the image certainly evokes what Adam Driver – The Force Awakens’ Kylo Ren, who will also feature in the sequel – describes as being similarities between Episode VIII and The Empire Strikes Back, though, the same comparison was also drawn between that particular 1980 classic and the car crash that was Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, so take that with a pinch of salt.
Johnson has revealed very little about what his entry in the Star Wars saga will be like, though he did tell USAToday: “I want it to be a blast and to be funny and to be a ride the way The Force Awakens and the original Star Wars movies were.”
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi will hit cinemas on 15th December, 2017. Having completed principle photography last year, a teaser trailer is surely incoming very soon.
