It looks like plenty of people will get the chance to enjoy Star Wars: The Force Awakens on IMAX screens, as this particular movie is set to take over all of IMAX’s large-format screens in North America and most of the ones abroad. This is certainly not the first time that IMAX has reserved all of its screens for a single film for a month, but it is definitely not a regular occurrence. The last time this has happened was four years ago for the three Hobbit films, but given Star Wars’ incredible popularity, it makes sense for IMAX to reserve its screens for such an iconic film.
This is not exactly good news for rival distributors, who can only sit and watch as Star Wars makes its way on all IMAX screens during the holidays. Movies that are set to come out in November such as “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” and “Spectre” will receive plenty of IMAX time until December 18, while films such as “In the Heart of the Sea”, which is scheduled to come out on December 11, will only enjoy one week in IMAX.
Will you go see Star Wars: The Force Awakens during the holidays?
