December cannot arrive fast enough for Star Wars fans especially with the arrival of the lord and saviour Luke Skywalker into scene. Star wars: The Last Jedi continues directly from the end of The Force Awakens, with Rey finding Luke and handing him his lightsaber. The trailer then continues to provide glimpses of what is to come, showing short scenes about light and darkness, large explosions, new spaceships, new worlds, and the return of many beloved characters such as Finn (inside a pod for some reason), Poe and BB-8 (who are running away from and into explosions), General Leia (with her back turned and face obscured in the trailer) and even the not-so beloved Kylo Ren and Captain Phasma are present. Much of the movie remains mysterious and the trailer itself has a very ominous tone to it, with a very haunting sentence uttered by Skywalker himself towards the end: “It’s time for the Jedi to end.”
Star Wars: The Last Jedi is directed by Rian Johnson who has directed Looper and some Breaking Bad episodes before. The movie will hit theaters on December 15, 2017. The third part of the new trilogy, Episode IX will begin production sometime in 2017 and Jurrassic World director Colin Trevorrow is set to direct. It is scheduled for release in 2019.
