Star Wars Outlaws Director Shares Disappointment Over Game Reviews

Star Wars Outlaws, a highly anticipated game set in the Star Wars universe, recently launched to a mix of excitement and tempered expectations. The game, developed by Ubisoft, has received mixed reviews since its release, scoring in the mid-70s across various platforms on Metacritic. These scores reflect a generally positive reception but fall short of being outstanding.

Director’s Reaction

Julian Gerighty, the creative director of Star Wars Outlaws, expressed his feelings about the game’s reception in an interview with GamesRadar. He admitted, “I’m a little disappointed with the Metacritic; of course, recognition from press and critics is very important to us, but players are really connecting with what we did.” Gerighty highlighted that while the critical reception wasn’t as high as hoped, there is a strong connection with the player base who appreciate the game’s unique offerings.

The development team spent around four years creating the game, striving to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved franchise. Gerighty noted the team’s sense of “pride, happiness, and a sense of accomplishment” for the work they had done, despite the mixed reviews.

Despite the lukewarm critical response, Gerighty remains optimistic about the game’s future. He stated, “This will be a game that millions of people are going to play for years and years, and we’re never going to stop improving it.” He did add with a touch of humor, “Well, that’s a lie – we’ll probably stop improving it, but today, my mind is not on stopping improving it.”

Star Wars Outlaws is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
