Starfield Gets Free DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod

There’s been so much controversy about modding in Starfield, largely due to the release of a DLSS mod that came with the dreaded word “DRM” included with it. That’s right, a mod that was behind a paywall, because we all love that, right? I won’t like to it here, but things heated up further when that mod got cracked and started showing up on reddit and some forums as a free download… pretty much what everyone expected would happen, let’s be honest.

Well, now the lovely skills of modder ‘LukeFZ’ have come to light, as they’ve just released a completely free DLSS 3 Frame Generation Mod for Bethesda’s space exploration epic, Starfield. So if you don’t feel comfortable getting the DRM-laden DLSS 3 mod from PureDark, or the ripped-off version from a piracy forum, then you can just skip to the head of the queue and get this completely free one instead. Furthermore, it appears to be a completely original take on the process too, rather than just releasing someone else’s work.

Starfield DLSS 3 Mod

LukeFZ has some notable credit with Starfield already too, having already created the Starfield FSR2 Bridge, a mod for DLSS2 and XeSS support. Furthermore, this new DLSS 3 integration doesn’t rely on using Reshade either, making it even more simple to deploy.

There’s no in-game menu for the mod though, at least not yet, so you’ll have to edit the config.json file in the games directory. But honestly, that’s no big deal, and it’s pretty easy to configure. You just have to make on-the-fly adjustments in-game is all, but again, no big deal.

To get the mod, head on over to NexusMods here and frame the “Starfield Frame Generation – Replacing FSR2 with DLSS-G” mod files with your mod manager or as a manual download. The file is only 1.2MB, so it’s easily done.

How to Install

  • Download the release corresponding to your game version (Steam or Xbox/Microsoft Store)
  • Extract it into the game directory. (FSR2Streamline.asi along with the other files/folders from the zip should be next to Starfield.exe)
  • Download both the latest DLSS and DLSS-G DLLs and place them in the ‘streamline’ folder in the game directory.
Download links to the DLLs are provided below:
    DLSS
    DLSS-G
  • Launch the game.

Tell me More

Just remember, you’ll need an RTX 40-series graphics card to run DLSS 3, there is no exception here, as it’s a hardware-level feature. I’d also suggest you grab the simple FOV mod, and the fix for colours/black levels, the difference is staggering.
