While some people might regularly try to claim that PC gaming is a dying platform (possibly just to get a little attention), if the last couple of years has taught us nothing else, it’s that PC gaming is arguably bigger than its ever been before. – And just in case you needed some proof of that, following an update to Steam’s official database, they’ve confirmed that within just the lack week, its concurrent player count record has been broken TWICE with the latest (set only last Saturday) seeing a peak of 30,049,264 players!
So, if you were playing something on Steam last Saturday afternoon/early evening (UK time) then congratulations, you’re officially a record-breaker!
The record was first broken last Monday when the platform hit 30,030,095 concurrent users. Last Saturday, however, this was topped again with another 20,000 people joining the party. This took its latest record to a whopping 30,049,264. – And remember, this isn’t people merely logged into Steam. This is people actually playing games!
What’s caused this recent spike though? Well, although you’re free to make your own opinion, there are probably two major factors to this. Firstly, it’s the half-term week (simple enough to understand). And secondly, Modern Warfare 2 is both out and available on Steam.
As above though, if you were on Steam Saturday afternoon, congrats! – Don’t expect this record to stand for very long though!
