Steam has been quietly adding coupons to their online game distribution platform.
Though there has been no official announcement, some users have reported seeing coupons popping up on Steam, and some users have also found a Offical Steam Support page with some limited details.
According to the FAQ, any single eligible coupon will automatically be applied to your order upon checkout, unless you choose to save it for later. The coupons will also reside in your inventory, which seems to indicate the most exciting aspect of this development: the ability to trade coupons with other users.
It’s unclear how these coupons will be earned, perhaps earning them in competitions, as rewards for social media activity, or just automatically during sales events. Hopefully Steam will release some concrete information soon.
Whether coupons will affect the celebrated Steam Mega Sales, or replace the daily and weekly deals is still unknown.
