Among the exciting announcements by NVIDIA during CES 2025, one stands out for Steam Deck owners. NVIDIA revealed that a native app for the GeForce Now cloud gaming service will arrive on Valve’s handheld device later in 2025.
As it stands, GeForce Now can already be accessed on the Steam Deck through a browser, with added ease provided by a script created by NVIDIA. However, the new native app promises a more seamless and user-friendly experience.
Stream Games with Enhanced Performance
The native app will allow users to stream their purchased games from the cloud, offering a catalog of around 2,100 supported titles. Performance is expected to significantly surpass the base hardware’s capabilities. This boost will be noticeable in both portable mode and when the Steam Deck is connected to an external display. Gamers can enjoy resolutions up to 4K at 60 FPS or 1440p at 120 FPS, complete with HDR support.
Advanced Features and Longer Battery Life
The app will bring the benefits of an RTX GPU, up to the 4080 series, including features like DLSS 3 for upscaling and NVIDIA Reflex to reduce latency. Since GeForce Now runs on the cloud, the Steam Deck’s processor will handle less load, resulting in improved battery life compared to running games natively on the device.
With these updates, the Steam Deck’s gaming experience is set to reach new heights, making it easier than ever to enjoy high-quality gaming on the go.
