Steam Hardware Survey – More Solid Gains for Windows 11 With Gamers!

While Windows 11 still struggles to win over general desktop PC consumers, the operating system has undoubtedly seen significantly more success when it comes to the gaming community. No, it’s by no means a runaway success with many still choosing to prefer to remain on Windows 10 for at least the time being. – Following the release of the latest Steam Hardware Survey, however, despite a continued generally apathetic response from the gaming community, Windows 11 is still seemingly managing to tempt more and more people into checking it out!

Steam Hardware Survey – June Update!

As part of the latest figures from the Steam Hardware Survey, Windows 11 has managed to snag itself 1.64% more users over the last month. While clearly a matter of some interpretation, it does seem that this has been almost entirely comprised of people ‘upgrading’ from Windows 10 with its respective market share falling by 2.63%. Albeit, with it still at a staggering huge 71.26% market share, and given that Windows 11 is nearly a year old now, this will clearly not make for happy reading for Microsoft.

Based on overall desktop market share figures, however, it seems pretty clear that the earliest adopters of Windows 11 have been predominantly gamers (the general W11 market share is currently only 10.96%). Possibly because we’re the only ones with the relative knowledge of how to actually enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot from within the BIOS.

Solid (But Unsurprising) CPU Gains For Intel

In terms of processors, Intel has had a decent month by clawing a seemingly impressive 1.28% market share back from AMD. In this regard though, I think there are factors at play here currently making Intel the slightly more attractive option. Not least in the fact that over the last couple of months, their current-gen Alder Lake processors have been seeing some pretty nice price cuts with retailers.

With AMD Ryzen 7000 and Intel Raptor Lake set to drop in just a couple of months though, expect these figures to change quite significantly before the end of the year!

Graphics Cards – Entry Level Remains King!

The overall graphics card market share landscape in the Steam Hardware Survey remains pretty much the same. Generally speaking, the more cost-effective entry to mid-tier designs still dominates the top of the charts. – In something of a moderate surprise though, the relatively recently released Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 has been the biggest mover in the last 30-days with it breaking the top 20 with apparent ease.

I’m not going to lie though, I’m a little surprised by this one. The 3050, while certainly affordable, isn’t exactly a powerhouse when it comes to gaming performance and its apparent competition in the AMD 6500/XT doesn’t even feature on this list at all. This does, however, once again prove though that even relatively basic graphics cards often prove to be the biggest success stories (as the 1060 once again holds onto its top spot for circa 64 months in a row now!).

Where Can I Learn More?

There is clearly a lot of information that can be gleaned from the Steam Hardware Survey, but in terms of overall consumer trends and general market ‘feelings’, it’s probably one of the best resources around. – If you do, therefore, want to have a look yourself with a deep dive into the figures, you can check it out via the link here!
