Steam Hits 33.6 Million Concurrent Players Over The Weekend

Steam is the go to for PC gaming as no other storefront and launcher, except for GOG.com, offers anything good enough to warrant using it, and no Epic, Free games aren’t enough if you don’t actually make the launcher good to use. Being the go to platform means lots of people are using it daily and recently a new record was hit for the concurrent player count on Steam as a whole.

New Steam Concurrent Player Record

SteamDB gives all of the numbers and details surrounding Steam and its games including price history, sales and popularity, and todays topic of player counts. The site tracks the concurrent player count of all games as well as Steam as a whole which over the weekend reached an all time peak of 33,675,229 which is a 1 Million gain over the previous month.

Now admittedly this isn’t the first time Steam has reached over 33 Million as it has done so through January 2023 to April 2023 where it peaked in March at 33,598,520 so it’s not a huge feat but it does put Steam on a likely path to reach 34 Million very soon. Putting this all into perspective though makes it a little less impressive as only 10,837,140 of those 33 million were actually playing games although that is an all-time peak within itself topping last months record of 10,499,709. So if we ignore the 23m people like myself who just have Steam open in the background, what have the 10 million been playing over the weekend?

The top ten games this month are quite predictable with CS 2 topping the board at 1.2 Million players, followed by DOTA 2 at 730k players. Trailing on behind is two of the most popular Battle Royale games, PUBG and Apex Legends at 566k and 310k respectively. 6th place with 114k players is a rare position for Baldurs Gate 3 most used to being at the top with its many. After those we have GTA V at 213k, TF2 at 159k, Wallpaper Engine at 128k and Monster Hunter: World at 162k.

Here’s to 34 Million, unless another launcher suddenly becomes good but that’s a bit unlikely in the span of a couple months.
