Steam Hits New Record for Users; Path of Exile 2 & Marvel Rivals Drive Growth

Steam has achieved a new milestone, surpassing 39 million concurrent users online at the same time. This impressive feat can be attributed, in part, to the strong early launch performances of Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals.
In 2024, Valve’s platform has seen extraordinary growth, with user numbers consistently breaking records. From 33 million to 37 million by late summer, Steam has now reached (thanks Gamesradar) 39.2 million simultaneous users, a new high as recorded just a few hours ago this weekend.
A Surge in Active Users
This remarkable increase in active users is likely linked to high-profile releases and the growing popularity of online gaming. As new titles attract players, the platform sees a corresponding rise in the number of connected users.
While long-standing favorites like Counter-Strike 2 and Dota 2 continue to dominate the leaderboard, two new releases are quickly making a name for themselves in the online gaming space.
Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals Break Records
Path of Exile 2 and Marvel Rivals, both launched this week, are already seeing incredible success on Steam. Path of Exile 2 is setting new records for online activity, with over 550,000 concurrent players currently online—a number expected to grow as the weekend progresses.
Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is also experiencing impressive growth, with over 450,000 active players at this moment, and that number is expected to rise as well.
It’s clear that these two blockbuster titles have played a significant role in helping Steam hit a new high for simultaneous users. As the days unfold, it will be interesting to see how these numbers evolve.
