Best Selling/Highest Earning on Steam
I think we can all agree, 2017 was a good year for gaming. I daresay, however, that despite how good it was for us, it was probably better for Gabe Newell.
As the end of the Winter Sale approaches Valve has decided to reveal what were the best selling games for 2017. I should note, however, that this isn’t all about gaming. It also includes DLC and any in-game transactions there may be.
Broken into 4 tiers, we explore the top 3. Why not the top 4? Because Valve basically bundles every other game worth talking about into Bronze.
Incidentally as well, I note that in our recent ‘Top 5 Games in the Steam Sale’ article, all of those we mentioned are included in this list.
Platinum Tier
Being some of the best selling or highest earners of 2017, frankly, there are not too many surprises. The only mildly eyebrow-raising point is that at a cursory glance, around half of these titles (possibly more) were not released in 2017. The inclusion of PUBG is certainly no surprise.
Ok, maybe why people are buying H1Z1 is mildly confusing.
Gold Tier
As you would expect, good, but not quite topping the list. Once again about a 50/50 mix of new and old. While there is nothing, as above, particularly unusual about these the inclusion of Total War Warhammer is surprising, just because it seems to have outsold its brand new addition. That being said, it was on sale in practically every Steam event this year. Oh, and it’s awesome.
Silver Tier
Speaking of Warhammer, its sequel does, however, appear in the Silver tier of sales. Euro Truck Simulator 2 continues to find masses of fans and the fantastic Dead By Daylight and Cuphead also appear which is nice for smaller studios.
Bronze Tier
Yeah, basically, I didn’t bother with this tier. Why? Simply because if you are surprised it didn’t feature in the top 3 tiers, it’s safe to assume it was in bronze. There are a few surprise inclusions such as Friday the 13th. Not surprising because it made the list, but surprising because it’s so bad and despite this, it’s on the list.

Incidentally, I might add, just in case you hadn’t noticed. All of these games just happen to be in the Steam sale. So if you’re quick, you can grab yourselves one of the best selling games of 2017.
