Steam Sets a New Concurrent Player Record at 26.4M

If you own a PC with any inclination towards gaming, then the chances are exceptionally good that you probably have Steam installed on it. If you were, however, logged into it and playing games at some point of around 3 pm on the 7th of February (which was yesterday depending on which point you are reading this), then congratulations, you are officially a record breaker!! Yes, not for the first time over recent months, Steam has again just officially confirmed that a brand new record concurrent player count has been set!

Steam Breaks Concurrent Player Record… Again!

Over the last four months, this is about the 5th or 6th time (I lose count) that the concurrent Steam player count has seen a brand new high. Admittedly, with most of us being required (or at least strongly encouraged) to remain at home as much as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic, this isn’t entirely surprising. With 26,401,443 having been logged in for some gaming last Sunday, however, it is clearly more than a little indicative of how we’re choosing to pass our time at the moment!

It Will Be Broken Again!

Putting aside some of the most staple popular titles available on Steam to one side (such as DOTA 2 etc.), a major factor in the recent boom is undoubtedly largely represented by three major factors. Namely, Cyberpunk 2077, the recent release of the PC version of Nioh 2, and the resurgence in popularity for ‘Rust’. – Make no bones about it though, given that self-isolation is expected to continue for at least the next few months, while 26.4m is certainly impressive, we’d be very surprised if this record wasn’t broken again in the very near future.
