Less then three months ago, Steam hit its record 15 million concurrent users online. Now, they have reached another milestone at 17 million users, largely due to online gaming popularity. Leading the charge is of course PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with its 22M user base. The game is set to finally leave “Early Access” and head out to have a 1.0 release while launching on Xbox as well. The game’s surge in popularity in China is also the cause of the massive Steam user growth. In fact it is also the reason why Windows 7 has gained more market share over Windows 10 recently at the Steam Hardware survey.

A glance over at SteamDB also shows what is popular on the platform right now aside from PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds. Valve’s DOTA 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive remain strong at two and three with its worldwide following. Tom Clancy’s Ranbow Six Siege is helped largely by the recent free weekend and promotions. Even Sanctum 2 is currently trending, due to Humble Bundle recently offering it for free.
The platform’s massive Autumn sale is about to wrap up as well so that is also another major factor in the userbase surge. With over 7000+ titles on sale, many fans who have missed the summer sale and the Halloween sale could buy the game they have been waiting for. The next big sale on the platform is not until December for their year-end holiday sale.
