As time and technology moves on old operating systems are slowly put to bed and that time is soon approaching for Windows 7 8 and 8.1 for Steam compatibility
In an announcement from steam support, as of January 1st 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 operating systems meaning that users of those operating systems will no longer be able to use Steam. The reasoning for this from Steam is that the newest features rely on an embedded version of Google Chrome, which no longer functions on older versions of Windows. New versions of steam will also require windows security updates that are only present in Windows 10 and above.
Windows 7 was a great OS but those still clinging on to it have got to move on especially as support ended back in 2020 and when it comes to Windows 8, which I doubt anyone still uses that rubbish, reached end of life back in January this year. All in all, this isn’t a huge problem as I don’t see why anyone clings on to Windows 7 as Windows 10 is decent and you could even get a Linux distro that resembles Windows 7 if you love it that much.
