Valve are the creators of many industry leading gaming franchises, with Counter-Strike, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Portal, and Team Fortress all offering some of the finest gaming experiences that the PC (and now in many cases also consoles) has to offer, now they’re about to expand that experience into a whole new area!
Steam have officially announced their Trading Cards Beta, something we actually caught a rumour of the other day after someone hacked the Steam Database, looks like he was telling the truth after all, the only difference is, we had no idea what Steam Cards were at the time, now we know exactly what they are.
With the growth of services such as Steam and Source, we can now celebrate in the glory of Steam Trading Cards, a new service that is set to reward gamers for doing what they do best, playing games.
“Released in beta today, Steam Trading Cards allows customers to earn Steam rewards for playing the games they love. Those who participate will receive game-specific trading cards that can be collected to earn rewards such as game badges, profile backgrounds, emoticons, coupons, and more.” – Valve

Personally I’m immediately thinking there are now more ways of trading hats in TF2, but only time will tell if the cards will prove anywhere near as popular as those crazy hats!
