Steam Welcomes Lionsgate – Over 100 Movies Added to Steam

Steam is commonly seen as a platform for video games but amongst its collections and game sales, Steam also offers software and videos for everyone to enjoy. If you wish to enjoy a cinema in your own home then Steam may have just moved a step closer as it welcomes Lionsgate films to its collection of movies.

In a press release, Lionsgate films introduced itself as “one of the first major studios to license films to Valve’s popular Steam digital distribution platform”. With over 100 films from the company being added to Steam, people will be able to enjoy films as big as Saw and Dredd and series like the Twilight Saga, the Hunger Games films, and the Divergent movies.

With the videos available for users of Windows, Mac, Linux, SteamOS and even their new virtual reality platform SteamVR. With a list of TV shows alongside their movies, this would be the first step in Valve becoming an online service to rival the likes of Netflix or Amazon Prime Video.

Lionsgate says that this is just another step in its “commitment to monetize its content across an expanding array of digital platforms by offering its movies, television programming and digital content to online audiences around the world”.

Could more companies soon join Lionsgate on Steam? What films do you want to see on the platform? Sadly one thing they seem to miss out on the press release is that its only seems to be available in America, with the movies not being listed on Steam for users from the UK or Malaysia.
