SteelSeries Prime Mini eSports Mouse Review

How Much Does it Cost?

Amazingly, the counterpart to this mouse, the SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless will set you back £129.99, which is a LOT of money. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a bloody amazing mouse, and one of the most high-end and competitive wireless mice on the market today, a true eSports hero. However, and this is a freaking massive HOWEVER, the wired version is just £59.99… That’s a truly biblical saving. If you want class-leading performance and you don’t need that wireless technology, this is obviously the mouse for you.

Overview

There are a lot of great gaming mice on the market today, especially if you’re budget is around £60, where things get extremely competitive. Every major brand has something worthy in this price range. However, SteelSeries is hardly slacking off here, as they’ve taken on of their most successful gaming mice and made it even better. The SteelSeries Prime series (check out all of them here) is proven in the world of eSports, and that’s something that’s had many at-home gamers picking up the same mice to be more competitive.

The original prime was and still is superb. It was crafted and extensively tested by eSports players, and that shows in its results. The new Mini version is the next evolution of that, meeting demand for a slightly different form factor that’s made the mouse feel more nimble and comfortable in my hand. However, the core features of each mouse remain the same, so switching between the two doesn’t feel too strange.

The crispy clicks and that slick TrueMove sensor make this a strong competitor though. While I do prefer to have a few more buttons on my mouse as I’m an MMO gamer or even a top-mounted DPI button as I switch between gaming and Photoshop, I can appreciate the more focused design of this mouse. I’ve actually been using it a little more than intended, as I’m back playing a little Quake 3 Arena, and when it comes to those fast-paced shooters, it’s easy to see why gamers love the Prime series.

Should I Buy One?

I absolutely loved the wireless version of this mouse, but I still feel the price really hurts it. That being said, it is priced competitively against its rivals. However, the cost of the wireless models only makes this wired model look even stronger. The same eSports-ready performance, flawless mechanical switches and a superb sensor and at such a reasonable price make this one of the best gaming mice on the market today.
