SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless eSports Mouse Review

How Much Does it Cost?

The SteelSeries Prime Mini Wireless will set you back £129.99, which is a LOT of money. However, you have to keep in mind the high-end hardware that it comes equipped with is some of the best on the market. As such, the price is actually pretty competitive with flagship wireless eSports models for all of their main rivals. That being said, some of SteelSeries more affordable mice, like the Aerox 3 will likely be better for the majority of gamers. However, for those looking for the extra edge in eSports or any competitive gaming, the Prime Mini Wireless is superior.

Overview

SteelSeries is one of the biggest names in gaming, and that’s especially true for eSports. While this mouse may be out of the price range of most gamers, its high-end hardware and flawless performance make it a prime choice for competitive players. It’s still the same Prime Wireless you know and love, but it’s higher, lighter and more nimble than ever. I thought that would have felt out of place in my larger hands, as I favour a larger gaming mouse in general. However, it’s hard to argue with how this mouse feels once you get to grips with it.

The sensor is excellent, albeit, every brand seems to have a truly killer sensor these days, and bad ones are pretty much a thing of the past. However, the tilt-sensor that ensures the mouse doesn’t track while you’re lifting it is nice, especially while using low DPI settings that require you to lift and move the mouse to get back on your mat. I do miss having a DPI button on top, but I do change speed so rarely that using the profile button on the bottom is hardly a compromise. Plus, I know tournament players prefer this, fewer buttons in the way, fewer ways to make a mistake.

They told me they had a new “crispy click” and well, they weren’t wrong. It’s one of the most prominent and unique feeling clicks of any mouse I’ve ever used. It’s a little more audible, a little more tactile, but it still responds light and fast. It’s also amazing that’s it’s rated for 100M clicks, which is just miles ahead of the competition. I expect we’ll see more of these amazing Optical Mechanical switches in future models too, they’re just sublime to use.

Should I Buy One?

SteelSeries has taken a great mouse and made it feel better than ever. It’s smaller, lighter and faster than ever. With one of their finest sensors, some incredible new switches, and impressive 100-hour battery life. Despite being wireless and equipped with exceptional hardware, it’s still only 73g! Overall, it may be expensive, but for competitive gaming, it’s more like a scalpal than a sword, and easily one of the best SteelSeries has ever done.
