SteelSeries is announcing the new APEX 150 gaming keyboard which is a lot more affordable than most. However, that does not mean it lacks some features. In fact it has a full 104-key layout, 5-zone RGB LEDs, custom switches, and is spill resistant.
A superior alternative to typical membrane keyboard solutions, the APEX 150 makes use of custom Quick Tension switches. Although not a true mechanical switch per-se, it is nonetheless a hybrid alternative for consistent key presses. In fact, it is perfectly ideal for low friction use and has extended durability expected of a gaming keyboard over typical membrane-based solutions. The Apex 150 even has an iron plate located at the base, uniquely designed membrane sheet, and custom molded POM compound top housing inserts.
Like any decent gaming keyboard, players expect the APEX 150 to have some anti-ghosting behaviour. This is an issue with membrane keyboards unless the matrix layout overcomes bottlenecking. The APEX 150 actually has a 24-key rollover feature so that the gaming cluster inputs register without a hitch.
Since the APEX 150 has RGB LED backlighting, additional controls are available via the SteelSeries Engine software. Users can even use the LED as a notification for the integrated apps such as Discord, CS:GO, DOTA2, audio visualizer and more.
The APEX 150 is now available for only $49 USD.
