SteelSeries Rival 310 Trumove3 Optical Gaming Mouse Review

A Closer Look

The Rival 310 comes neatly packaged. In the box you’ll find a simple user guide, and the mouse its self. The mouse comes hard-wired with a lightweight rubber sleeved cable. It’s nothing too complicated and it is plug and play ready. However, to ensure you get the best performance, you’ll want to download the software to customise any settings.

The new mouse doesn’t differ too much from what we’ve seen from SteelSeries in the past. Of course, this is great news for those who’ve been using a Rival mouse for many years, as you’ll feel right at home with the new one. The LMB and RMB are now split, and the grips have been refined. However, the biggest change with this mouse is on the inside with the new sensor technology being the main focus.

Looks Familiar?

For those who aren’t familiar with the older models, this is still a great looking mouse. The side buttons are nice and large with an easy to control shape to them. It is a right-hand ergonomic shape, so left handed gamers may want to check elsewhere in the SteelSeries range. To ensure you get the best possible grip on the mouse, there’s a thick and durable rubber grip on the side.

The right side of the mouse has a nice sweeping curve. This shape allows a comfortable finger resting position. Of course, you’ll also notice another one of those large rubber grips here too.

Split Mouse Buttons

Another nice feature, that surprisingly isn’t that common is the split LMB and RMB. Both switches are on their own springs with separate control surfaces. This provides cleaner control with no feedback from one switch to the other. Most people likely don’t care, but I certainly prefer it this way. The mouse wheel is lovely too, heavily recessed and a good size, it’s very light and easy to control. Of course, it’s clickable and there’s a hint of RGB lighting around it too for good measure.

Finally, on the underside of the mouse, you’ll find three slip mats and the sensor. The featureless design helps the mouse deliver most of its glide passively without the need for huge slip mats. The mouse is also fairly light, so it doesn’t bed in on thicker gaming surfaces anyway.
