The Rival 310 uses the lovely SteelSeries Engine 3. I like this software, as it works with all SteelSeries peripherals, meaning you don’t need to clutter your system with lots of programs. It’s nicely designed and auto detects the hardware connected. One plugged in, you can easily tweak the DPI levels from 100 all the way up to 12000 DPI. All buttons are customisable with shortcuts, macros, etc too. When it comes to gaming, you’ll easily be able to apply your favourite profile in seconds.
The macro engine is comprehensive too, which is great for those play a lot of MOBA and MMO type games.
SteelSeries have been really blowing their own trumpet about this mouse and its fancy new sensor. Fortunately, it’s not unfounded confidence, and it’s incredibly accurate to use. There’s absolutely no jitter, no angle snapping, no acceleration. Pixel perfect? Absolutely. Any wobbles in my test were definitely of my own doing and not down to the sensor freaking out. from 100 to 12000 DPI the mouse is surprisingly manageable and combine that with a lift off height of no more than 1mm, and you’ve got a great gaming mouse here.
The real world gaming performance of this mouse is absolutely flawless. Anyone who takes their gaming seriously will obviously want a very precise sensor. Of course, that’s not a bad thing to have for any gamer. The TrueMove3 tech certainly delivers great results, and while I can’t say it’s the best sensor ever, it’s certainly competitive with the best of the best. Zero acceleration or angle snapping go a long way in fast paced games such as LoL, Overwatch, and CS:GO, and that’s where this mouse really excels.
The fully programmable design is great for work and gaming too. Being able to set complex macros or button combinations can make your life a whole lot easier. From farming mobs in Elder Scrolls Online to triggering actions in Photoshop, I’ve always got uses for a macro engine.
The ergonomics are night and tight, with a wide back and narrower front, making it easy to use multiple grip type. The rubber coated sides are comfortable and perfect for fingertip/liftoff gaming techniques.
The switches are snappy and responsive, lending themselves well to rapid clicking frenzies. OF course, as you can see, there’s some lovely RGB lighting too, with the rear and mouse wheel giving off some vivid colours. RGB can be fun, but it also makes it easy to identify which gaming profile you have selected, which is handy while gaming.
