Steelseries Rival 600 Gaming Mouse Review

Performance

This is a mouse you can just plug and play, but why would you? Much like a track day car, it has a lot of advanced setup features that are fun to dive into. For starters, we can pull off those magnetic side panels to adjust the balance of the mouse.

There are four weight mounts on each side, giving us eight in total.

With four 4g weights, that’s 16g a side or 32g in total. Now, how you balance them out is really up to you. Adding weight to one side will make it easier to pivot or off set the way to put more weight on one side. It’s all really very subjective and down to your play style, gaming surface etc. However, it’s worth playing around with to find what works best for you.

Then we’ve got full RGB lighting to tinker with too. There are four zones, with the logo on the rear, two strips in the middle and the wheel too. Now, this can be aesthetics based, or reaction based, or controlled by some games, or set to various profiles. You could have it like this, bright red for your high DPI profile, for example.

Then have it toggle to blue for a lower DPI profile, so you know at a glance exactly how the mouse is going to behave. Again, not really needed, but it sure as heck can’t hurt. Plus, the bright and vivid colours look stunning either way.

The triple side button configuration is great though. You could keep the top middle button for DPI and have this one switch profiles, as a DPI dropper for sniper shots, macro launcher, or anything else really. Again, diving into the software to create profiles for your games can really pay off. Plus, you can store all these settings to the mouse then ditch the software if you so desire.

The mouse has a very dynamic shape to it, so long as you’re right handed. It’s long enough to use in a palm rest grip like this, even with my long fingers.

However, the long LMB/RMB design provide good actuation from front to back. Plus, with the rubber grips on the side, you can really dig your thumb in and hold on tight.

You can get your hand quite far back too for a more emphasised claw grip. What’s interesting are the grooves below the RGB strips.

I can get my thumb in one side and my little finger in the other, giving me plenty of control while only having minimal contact with the mouse.

Whatever grip you choose, there’s something on offer for you here. Not many mice can adapt to any grip type so easily. Plus, if you’re like me, you change grip types throughout your gaming session based on the task at hand.

The real star of the show, however, is that sensor. 1 to 1 accuracy is something that simply cannot be understated. Sure, there are other incredible sensors on the market, but Steelseries offer one of the absolute best. Easily competitive with the likes of the mighty Logitech. It’s smooth, endlessly accurate, and no surprise why eSports champions love it so much.

Overall, this mouse has all the premium performance one could ask for and then some. I love it!
