Steelseries announced earlier today that their brand new Stratus Wireless Gaming Controller is now available for iOS7 devices. The Stratus is the only iOS controller that is wireless and that works with iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch, so there is no need to have separate compatible gaming controllers for all your devices. The controller is available now from Apple stores as well as the Apple.com website for $79.99/ €79.99.
The controller is quite expensive, but given the controllers capabilities it is easily one of the best options on the market today for mobile gaming. We actually saw the controller just a few weeks ago in Las Vegas when the eTeknix team stopped by the Steelseries suite at CES 2014, and at that point the controller was actually revealed to be a little over $100! We thought that was way too expensive and it looks like Steelseries thought so too, as they said they’ve made every effort since the show to reduce the price, so we are really happy to see that it has now been reduced by at least $20. SteelSeries will honour the launch price of $79.99 / €79.99 on all pre-orders it has already taken for the controller on its websites globally, which is obviously great news.
“The media and consumer reaction to the announcement of the Stratus Controller at CES really demonstrated the power behind this product, and the new category of gaming we can enable by working together with Apple,” said Bruce Hawver, SteelSeries CEO. “More than ever, we see the power of this platform and we want to make every effort to make it accessible to as many consumers as possible. We have therefore worked closely with our retail partners and suppliers with the objective of lowering the retail price target without changing any of the terrific features of this product.”
“Since our inception, SteelSeries has been committed to not only making great and innovative products, but also to investing considerable time and resources into building a global gaming community. Working diligently with our suppliers to lower the MSRP, which we believe will help welcome a new world of gamers into this exciting space, allows us to stay true to our roots and provide consumers everywhere an exceptional value,” said Jacob Wolff-Petersen, SteelSeries Founder.
The controller is packed full of features including four back buttons, pressure sensitive face buttons, dual analogue sticks and more. We plan to have one in for review very soon and personally I can’t wait to put it through its paces so stay tuned for an in-depth look at its features and performance in the coming weeks.
Thank you Steelseries for providing us with this information.
