CD Projekt RED Responds to Ransom Demand for Stolen Cyberpunk 2077 Files

Files for CD Projekt RED‘s upcoming role-playing game Cyberpunk 2077 is apparently being held for ransom by an anonymous group. CD Projekt RED made the announcement on their official Twitter account on Thursday, verifying that a few internal files have been stolen. Among these are early designs and concept art for the game. The Polish game developer is in contact with authorities and refuses to pay for the ransom. They are standing their ground and bracing for a public release, as threatened by the thieves.

Much of the files stolen are outdated documents according to the company. Additionally, they state that these are not representative of the current state of the game. This could be just CD Projekt Red getting ahead of the public reception in case it leaks, possibly doing some damage control. The official statement from the company is only specific about having the early designs stolen. They have not revealed whether this includes a playable demo. Moreover, they did not disclose what exactly the stolen assets are. This may include either concept art, or 3D model assets such as characters or maps.

CD Projekt RED implores fans to ignore the leak if and when it does come out. They suggest waiting for the official CyberPunk 2077 product coming directly from their team.
