The massive success of NetFlix‘ Stranger Things pretty much guarantee the series will return for a second season. And as the latest short teaser from the Stranger Things Twitter account shows, it is coming sooner than expected. The release date is now set for October 27. The beloved young characters of the first season are returning and the show is still set in a small town called Hawkins. The first teaser preview trailer aired during Superbowl 51. Curiously, that teaser confirms that one more character thought to be dead is in fact, alive.
Aside from the good news of all the kids returning to the show, the teaser leaves a foreboding dread that something big is coming. Obviously, it will be difficult for things to be business as usual in Hawkins after everything that happened. The disappearance of people for example and several unexplained experiences are sure to leave a mark. Much of the focus will still be on the children, who will meet new characters this season including the brother and sister duo Billy (played by actor Dacre Montgomery) and Max (Sadie Sink). Although Billy is much older, his younger sister Max is the same age as the boys and will be a source of conflict.
The show’s producers are not saying much more, but are teasing to expect not just new human characters this season. The show will be exploring “a different kind of horror”, producer Matt Duffer says. The series after all is a love-letter to Stephen King. It takes plenty of inspiration from his source material and creates something special. The release date of October 27, also lines up with the setting of the second season which occurs around Halloween in the mid-80s.
