An intrepid speedrunner has managed to complete Fallout 3 in under 15 minutes, setting a new world record. YouTube user Rydou used a combination of quicksaving/quickoading to skip dialogues, clipping through walls to skip large swathes of map, and a further quickload quirk that allows walking speeds of 160% to beat Bethesda’s RPG in less than quarter of an hour.
Below the video, Rydou explains how to exploit the speedglitch:
“When you cripple your legs, your speed is set to 0, [and] then [brought] back to 60% of your normal speed. By quickloading just before getting crippled, you can confuse the game into giving you 60% without actually being put to 0 (because we don’t actually really get crippled). So you get a huge speedboost, and walk at 160% of your normal speed.
This speedboost can appear in two versions: One which is “breakable”, it will last as long as you don’t quickload again. The second one is “unbreakable”, you can quickload or load a game without losing it.
This time can still be improved, even if my raven rock was godly, my vault 87 was pretty awful, so I would like to get a sub 14:50. [At] the same time, I might try to get the sub 30 on FNV glitchless, and then get a decent time on FNV Any% because the run is now 2 min faster than it was.”
