Sumo Group to Cut Workforce by 15%

Sumo Group has announced plans to reduce its workforce by up to 15%, impacting nearly 250 employees. This decision comes as the company faces industry challenges and aims to reshape its operations to better navigate future obstacles.

Restructuring for Future Challenges

Sumo Group, known for its work-for-hire and co-development services for major companies like PlayStation, Microsoft, and Sega, is making these cuts to ensure the business’s security going forward. The company also has an indie publishing team called Secret Mode and operates offices across Europe, India, and Canada.

The company’s statement highlighted the dedication of its employees and the tough decision to reduce costs, stating, “Whilst Sumo has been able to manage through many of the recent difficulties the games industry has faced, we have not been immune and reshaping operations across the business to better navigate the upcoming challenges expected in the coming months is a path we must now take.”

Impact on Employees

The reduction will affect staff across Sumo’s locations in Canada, the UK, Poland, Czech Republic, and India. The company expressed that every alternative route to limit the impact on its people is being considered, but the process will still affect a significant portion of its workforce.

Sumo Group is known for developing games like the BAFTA-winning Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Crackdown 3.
