The Sunrise Smart Pillow has raised over $400,000 on Kickstarter, smashing its modest target of $50,000. Promising to be the future of “sleep and wake technology” the pillow is offering an array of features.

With the Kickstarter due to end on the 19th of May, the project is clearly popular. At present, $403,192 has been raised from 2941 sleepy backers.

One of the more attractive features of the Sunrise Smart Pillow is its “Deep Sleep Technology”. By combining different sleeping options, the pillow can help improve your general sleep patterns. Be it by helping to channel out noises or by providing you with soothing sounds.

The 6 featured ‘Deep Sleep Technology’ concepts include;

• Binaural Beats (Scientifically proven to lower brain activity)
• Fan Sounds (Helping to tune out of background sounds)
• Sound Conditioning (21 different sounds to help filter out the TV or a snoring partner).

Do I need this in my life?

With all the other gadgets working their way into our lives, this is a good question. I guess it is all comes down to if you have trouble sleeping and how much you’re willing to part with to try this concept out. The amount of backers in the Sunrise Smart Pillow and the vast amount in which it exceeded its target would suggest that many people really do want this.

How much is it?

Early bird backers can have the option to obtain a single pillow for as little as $129, shipping worldwide. Whilst this might seem like a lot of money, for those who do struggle to sleep this could prove to be invaluable. It’s at a price which will have many people tempted, if nothing else, as a novelty purchase. The retail price of $300, however, is rather steep, in fact, it’s practically vertical as far as I’m concerned.

The Kickstarter is still active and can be viewed by clicking here. With 12 days to go (at the time of writing), there is plenty of time to get on board with this project. The Facebook CEO said recently that it intends to give power to the masses and projects like this are certainly falling in that remit.

Personally, the spooning I do with my pillows do not look to be entirely compatible with this smart pillow, and I think I shall give this a pass. That being said, for a little over £100, I must confess to being tempted to try it out.
