Oculus Rift has proved a very popular device for the modding community, squeezing epic first person action out of many top gaming titles, providing a very cool perspective on popular gaming words. However not all mods are for modern games, as we’ve seen before there have been mods for some of the original Zelda and Mario games and today takes a crack at the Nintendo 64 classis, Super Mario 64.
YouTube user Chadtronic has tweaked the game to run Oculus Rift in first person mode, and as a free look camera for the third person mode. Using TriDef 3D and Xpadder you can now look through the eyes of Mario as you roam the games environments. As you’ll see from the video the mod isn’t without its drawbacks, or to put it bluntly, it’s damn near unplayable in first person mode. It does however provide some stunning views that one would otherwise have missed out on in the original game, as well as a true sense of scale for the castle and other environment elements.
