It has only been a few days since its release Super Mario Odyssey has already sold over 2 million copies. The news comes directly from an internal presentation of Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima. It is part of a 15-page slide deck discussing the health of the company. It apparently hit the 2 million mark just shortly after 3 days of release. This figure includes digital sales and bundles. Moreover, this bodes well for the upcoming Black Friday and Christmas season where this number could easily more than double or triple.
According to Nintendo, Super Mario Odyssey is performing within expectations. This includes not just the sales it is generating but the online reviews and fan reception as well. The company’s ultimate goal for the title goes beyond the fresh release and holiday season however, revealing plans for a marketing push of the title as an “evergreen” game.
Nintendo is also bolstering hardware availability for the upcoming holiday season, positioning the Nintendo Switch as the go-to holiday gift. The plan is to ultimate have a sell-in figure of or exceeding 16 million units within the first year since the release on March 2017.
