Nintendo shares have had their heads stomped again after a new wave of complaints that Super Mario Run players are unhappy with data usage.
As reported recently the game is currently only available on iOS and requires a constant internet connection to play. Not only has this upset iOS and Android users, it has caused a whole new set of problems for Nintendo. Whilst the game has been somewhat of a success, topping download charts since it was launched, the reviews and overall feedback have been a different story.
More than 50,000 reviews have been left so far, and the average rating has dropped to 2.5 stars. this doesn’t look too good for Nintendo, especially as they have the entire Android market to come, one can assume it will entail more negative reviews and complaints.
The data usage issue has been raised by a number of people, one Twitter user reported a data usage of 95mb and that was just for the initial install and tutorial. Since then he has noticed the data usage has not risen.
The continuous flow of complaints and problems has seen Nintendo’s shares fall again, it seems investors are losing patience and confidence. The leap into the mobile market was something investors in the company had hoped would turn Nintendo’s fortunes around.
This isn’t proving the be the case, and their first attempt at a mobile app couldn’t have gone much worse. However, this may not come as a surprise to most, the mobile app market is different to the way Nintendo are used to operating, and hopefully they will learn from their mistakes quickly.
Nintendo should be using the launch and overall reception of Super Mario Run as a test, hopefully they will respond and react to the feedback and use it to their advantage going forward. Nintendo are great at making games, but it seems they have some work to do in regards to mobile apps.
Have you bought Super Mario Run? Have you noticed any change in your data usage? Let us know if you’ve had any of these problems and what you think of the app.
