It has amazingly been over 8 years now since Edmund McMillan and Tommy Refenes released Super Meat Boy. The game proved to be exceptionally popular and certainly part of the ‘early break out’ of indie gamers. Initially finding huge success on websites such as Newgrounds, the full release version is still incredibly popular. Particularly with the speedrunning community does to its interesting mechanics.
In terms of a sequel though, following a reveal at E3 2017, there has been very little else since then to suggest that this game was in development. Well, the good news is that fans don’t have to wait any longer. Well, at least not any longer in terms of news!
A brand new trailer has been released for Super Meat Boy Forever and, better still, we have a release date!
The game in its design is relatively straightforward. Get from A-B without touching any of the various obstacles designed to turn your ‘Meat Boy’ into a puree. From the trailer (which you can watch below), it seems that Meat Boy and Bandage Girl have now had a baby and, as you might expect Dr Fetus (yes, that is the antagonist’s name) has kidnapped him (or her) this time around!
While we do not have an exact release date, we do know that it will release for the PC, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch at some point in April 2019. This does, however, mark something different. Rather than releasing on Steam, the PC version of the game will be an ‘Epic Games‘ store exclusive. Already, perhaps, one of the first signs that Steam’s dominance is coming to an end!
