Sports games are a divisive matter to the gaming community. Some love them, some hate them. There are, however, occasionally games which manage to span the void as offering the depth that sports fans love, although, being fun enough to attract the casual.
Super Mega Baseball fits that bill exactly, it’s fun for the passing player, yet a pretty decent approximation of baseball. There will, therefore, be a lot of disappointment to hear that Super Mega Baseball 2, scheduled to release this Autumn has been delayed.
The Super Mega Baseball 2 release will beg this tag line, but unfortunately, that’s not the case for the moment reports PCGamer.
Citing significant technical difficulties the developers have decided to postpone the release of the game until at least 2018.
The PC, generally speaking, doesn’t get enough sports games with developers preferring console. Despite EA announcing plans to bring more sports games to the PC, we don’t see enough.
There is in fairness a distinct lack of baseball games, or the very least, quality titles. You have ‘Out of the Park’ which is an excellent Football Manager style sports management simulation. It doesn’t, however, scratch the itch of those who like a gaming experience.
Yes, 100% yes. The first game in this series was an excellent combination of simulation and fun. While Super Mega Baseball 2 might graphically be taking more of a serious approach, it still appears to have kept all of the fun of the original.
The developer has said: “We’ve been working around the clock to complete the game but there are still features that aren’t finished yet. And where we’re sitting now, to release it by September would mean having to cut a lot of corners. And we do not want to give you a game that you won’t be happy with.”
They did indicate that a release before Christmas might be possible, however, added ‘who wants to play baseball in winter’. They have a good point.
