Super Zelda 64
You would struggle to find many people who would disagree that Zelda on the N64 was a gaming classic. Combining an open world design with an excellent story, when it released it was an instant classic. Similarly, you would struggle to find any critics of Mario 64. Well, one modder has been working hard to bring out plumber into the Zelda game and in a video released, his work has quickly garnered a lot of interest.
Kaze Emanuar
In a report via Polygon, Kaze Emanuar, best known for his Super Mario Online game, has been working hard at creating what to many would be the dream crossover. Alas, with his Mario Online game getting taken down (by Thors Hammer that is Nintendo and DMCA) he has had time to concentrate more on his Super Zelda 64 mod.
Yes, Mario can explore the N64 Zelda universe, with, of course, some minor accommodations.
Play as Mario in Zelda?
Of course, bringing Mario into the Zelda universe would take some creative thinking. There isn’t, after all, anyway that Mario could play a tune on the Ocarina that would allow for fast travel.
In the YouTube video Kaze Emanuar explains: “Since Mario does not play the ocarina, there needs to be another system to travel fast. Playing without quick travel would be annoying in a game like this. For this, the fairy fountains have been repurposed to be a warp world.”
The Super Zelda 64 mod is being created for use on PC, however, before you go dropping your Breath of the Wild, it hasn’t been released yet. The video, however, does showcase some amazing work. It seems that the mod has found a way to get both classics to work together. From what we’ve seen so far, we eagerly anticipate any further developments.
