Supermicro
It seems Supermicro often fly under the radar of many consumers. That’s hardly shocking, given their main business has often been enterprise, workstation and enthusiast systems. However, with some of the best build motherboards in the business, we always keep a closer eye on what Supermicro are up to.
Extreme Gaming
One of their recent partnerships certainly caught our eye. Teaming up with Thermaltake, and a few other brands, they’re releasing this full PC. It comes equipped with much of the latest and greatest hardware, such as their C9Z390-PGW motherboards. From there, you have options like the i9-9900K and the latest flagship GPUs. It’s all custom loop cooled with TT gear, and housed in their level 20 anniversary chassis. This should be showing up in the Supermicro store any time now. Prices will obviously vary based on specifications.
Extreme Workstation
Eager to build yourself a deep learning computing rig, rendering farm, workstation, or anything else that pushes the boundries of modern computing? Then look no further. The new X11SPA-TF features the Intel LGA 3647 Xeon Socket. It’ll handle up to 12 DDR4 DIMMS for up to 3TB of memory. It also features four full-size PCI-E 3.0 x16 slots, as well as an additional PCI-E x8 slots. Perfect for thank bank of Quadro cards, right?
If that’s not enough, you also get 4 M.2 slots, with RAID 0, 1, 5, and 10 supported. There’s 10 Gbit LAN, 1 Gbit LAN, and IPMI LAN. It’s an absolute beast, there’s no mistake in that.
Extreme Flexibility
We first saw this prototype at CES 2019. It’s a bit bonkers, but I think they’re onto something. It’s still not final, but the tooling has cleaned up a lot. Basically, it’s a mini-ITX workstation, with a separate hot swap GPU module on the left side. So you could have 10 of these in the office, but just buy two GPU blocks. That way, if someone needs the GPU block, you unlock it from one system, move it to the next, and install it there. It’s not perfect, but they’re making great progress, and I can’t wait to see the final one.
