Synaptics Encrypted Fingerprint Sensors Hit Real World Products

Synaptics Computex 2018

It’s not uncommon for Synaptics to show us prototypes of their latest hardware. Afterall, they’re generally a technical solutions company rather than a consumer products company. They create solutions, companies integrate their technologies, and everybody wins. In fact, it’s likely you’re using their tech right now, and you wouldn’t even know it!

Their next generation of MOH (Match-on-Host) fingerprint sensors has been around for over a year now.

However, they’re finally making their way into consumer products this year. For those wanting it to be plug and play ready, literally, the PQ1 is perfect. It stores the fingerprint directly to the flash drive, not software, meaning it’s insanely hard to crack.

Being removable, it also increases drive security and is ideal for data security when in transit, as well as locking any connected devices.

VIVO

One of the best ones is the VIVO phone, which uses their latest in-screen fingerprint sensor. You can guarantee, pretty much all high-end phones will be shifting to these very soon.

Dell Wired Mouse

Before, the sensor was kind of bulky and located on the side. However, now it’s so smoothly integrated, you wouldn’t know it if I didn’t tell you.

For a security-focused work environment, this ensures only the right users can use any system.

Laptops

Of course, integration into laptops is a big part of their business, and they’re making innovations there too. Below, you can see their previous model, which was much larger. The sensor lights up when needed, but is otherwise invisible.

Their latest model is a heck of a lot smaller, making it even better suited to more compact laptops too.

They demonstrated this with this lovely HP system, which is ultra-slim yet isn’t compromised in the slightest by the new ultra-low profile fingerprint sensor.

Release Date

These products are already hitting the market, and reach far and wide. They’re not something you buy on their own, but expect to see more brands integrating their security tech in innovative ways over the coming year.
