Synology announce sub-$1000 72TB NAS server

Synology today announced the latest in its line of scalable NAS servers, the DS1812+. Designed with small business users in mind, the 8-bay DS1812+ can quickly scale out to 18 drives by leveraging the expansion capabilities of the DX510.The DS1812+ is the largest capacity DiskStation to debut under $1,000, making a powerful and affordable storage solution. Using 4TB drives, it can quickly scale up to 72 TB storage. It makes for Synology’s fastest small business server to date, reaching read/write speeds up to 202 MB/s and 194 MB/s respectively. Supporting VMware, Citrix Xen, and Microsoft Hyper-V is a low-cost addition to virtual networks.

The new DiskStation is designed to help minimize downtime for businesses. With this in mind, it is built using passive cooling on the CPU, eliminating a point of failure. Exhaust fans are user-replaceable, allowing for quick recovery.With USB 3.0 ports available, backing up critical data has never been faster or easier. For further protection, drive trays feature key locks to protect against accidental or malicious drive removal.Shipping with the renowned DiskStation Manager operating system, it is designed to save users not just money, but management time, too.
